Upgrading to OpsMgr 2007 R2 this past week has brought forth some refinements that were missing from OpsMgr 2007 SP1…
While navigating through the Administration console, the first thing I noticed is that everything is in alphabetic order.
Okay, not a big deal, but the German in me prefers to have a list in alphabetic order…
I also noticed that under Notifications is a new selection – Channels.
Selecting Channels, will display all of your Notification Channels previously defined by the setup of Subscriptions for alerting (Hardware, OSes, Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, etc…)
If you view the properties of the Channel Name, it will not provide a whole lot of information, but I’ll walk you through how to change this to contain relevant information below…
If you select Subscriptions from the left-hand side of the OpsMgr console (under Notifications) and look at one of the properties of a Subscription Name, you’ll see a listing of Channels set for notifications.
Selecting Edit from this screen will enable you to do the following:
Modify the Channel Name that will make it easier to identify later:
Specify SMTP Server(s):
Edit the SMTP settings:
Specify a Retry interval:
Format the Email notification:
Specify the Importance:
Obviously I only covered one Channel Type (SMTP), but if you read through an earlier post of mine (Forwarding OpsMgr Alerts via SNMP) you’ll understand why having clear defined Channel Names will help in understanding just what Subscriptions are using which Channel Names.
